BROOKLYN: GHOST is pleased to announce ‘Baby Teeth,’ a solo exhibition by Atlanta based artist, Kaitlyn Crosby, opening Saturday, June 8th at 6pm.
Crosby (b. 1998) creates vibrant, large-scale paintings that feature abstracted femmes, seemingly in motion, heavily outlined and filled with color. Each composition offers a similar profile view of the face, leaving a long nose, pouting lips, and single eye in view of the audience.
Crosby asks with this exhibition, what do we need to get rid of in ourselves to make way for something better? Who sees the truth, children or adults? And maybe, most poignantly, what does it mean to be a child?
Her work is intensely emotional in its color choice, all intuitively chosen, drawing back on the way in which children create art impulsively, something we forgot somewhere along the way. The artist strives, even fights, to keep an innocent and beautiful view on a world which reveals itself to be more and more ugly as the years wear on.
“Baby teeth” is essentially what we lose, and what grows in its place.
Baby Teeth’ opens Saturday, June 8th, 2019 at 6pm and runs through Sunday, June 16th. The reception is open to the public. The exhibition can also be viewed throughout the week by appointment. This will be the artists first solo show with the gallery.
GHOST is a contemporary art gallery with locations in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and Downtown Los Angeles. The focus of the gallery is to aide in the development of emerging artists and to provide an open platform for new ideas.
